The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) announced that Seneca Landfill, Inc., has been named the winner of the SWANA Silver Excellence Award in the Landfill Gas and Biogas category. The award will be presented at SWANA’s annual conference, WASTECON®, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.
Seneca Landfill is receiving the award for its CNG Fueling Station, also known as Lego-V.
“Seneca Landfill, Inc., constructed a fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) facility at its municipal waste landfill in Evans City, Pennsylvania. It is the first company in Pennsylvania to capture the landfill gas it generates, refine it into natural gas, and then compress it into CNG fuel used by the same vehicles that collect the waste that is deposited into the landfill,” said Edward R. Vogel, Vice-President. “The CNG station will also be open to the public, which will make the opportunity for fleet conversion to CNG for local haulers and other fleet operators in the area more viable.”
The winning entry can be found on SWANA’s website in August.
SWANA’s Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound solid waste management through their commitment to utilizing effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, advancing worker and community health and safety, and implementing successful public education and outreach programs. Programs also must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible through their compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
