Seneca Landfill has been a part of the community since 1965. Since then, we have made giant leaps in the technologies used to store and manage local municipal waste. Here are some facts about the state of Seneca Landfill in 2016.
- Our landfill is lined with a total of seven (7) layers of protection to prevent soil and groundwater contamination.
- Seneca has installed over 40 gas extraction wells this year to capture landfill gas that we turn into pipeline quality natural gas, a renewable energy resource.
- Since 2011, Seneca Landfill has converted landfill gases into enough green energy to heat over 18,000 homes per year in Western Pennsylvania.
- Seneca Landfill's cutting edge water treatment plant has the capacity to process up to 110,000 gallons per day.
- This fall, Seneca has plans to place high density polyethelyne liner capping material over areas of the landfill that have reached final grade.
